There are a number of crisis numbers and shelters throughout the province of Newfoundland & Labrador. If you are a victim of violence and need somewhere to go or someone to talk to, see below. If you feel you are in danger of violence, do not hesitate to dial 911 for RNC/RCMP detachment.

Newfoundland St. John's and surrounding area Iris Kirby House Shelter/Transition house for women and children in crisis, offering crisis intervention, support for abused women and related issues, empowerment and shelter, children's groups help build self-esteem and provide education on issues related to violence. Presentations on crisis intervention are available to groups upon request. 24-hour crisis line. (709) 753-1492 (Note: This number is not toll-free. Providing safety, shelter and support to young women aged 16 – 30, acting as a referral source, linking young women to appropriate resources, providing advocacy, supportive counselling, and helping find long term housing.

Other Crisis Contacts Human Resources, Labour and Employment (HRLE) 24-hour toll-free Income Support Line Provincial 24-hour toll-free crisis line for situations related to income. If you identify yourself as a victim of violence, HRLE will help you leave your situation by arranging for a taxi and making contact with the shelter/transition house nearest you. Provincial 24-hour toll-free line. 1-877-729-7888 (Please note that when calling from a pay phone, no quarter is needed.)
Kids Help Phone 24-hour toll-free, counselling and referral service for children across the country to provide children with the help they need and deserve. To speak with a professional counsellor, young people can call Toll-Free. 1-800-668-6868. Parent Help Line is a service of Kids Help Phone in collaboration with Invest in Kids Foundation. It is Canada's only national, bilingual, 24-hour, toll-free confidential and anonymous phone counselling, referral and Internet service for parents and caregivers.
