The Coalition Against
Violence is an alliance of community
and government agencies dedicated to ending violence in our homes and communities.
As an equality seeking organization whose
mandate is to tackle violence at its roots,
we educate and advocate,
increasing awareness around the causes of violence,
all the while
lobbying for services effective in the prevention and early intervention of
violence.
A vehicle for change, our Coalition brings together
diverse perspectives, facilitating
a crucial dialogue between government and
community, policy and frontline.
- Our Coalition spans the Eastern
Avalon region of Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada,
and is one of ten throughout the
province working in partnership with
the Violence Prevention Initiative,
Government of NL.

Coalition Against
Violence Philosophy
Violence is a crime and a complex social problem, deeply rooted
in dominant society’s
traditional acceptance of inequality, particularly as
it relates to the everyday experiences
of
women, children, seniors and people from minority groups.
It is a basic, human right
to live without fear of physical, sexual or emotional abuse.
The community has a right
and a responsibility to get involved;
an interdisciplinary approach is
essential.
Because violence transcends
all class, cultural and ethnic boundaries,
there is a need for a broad spectrum of services to meet the needs of victims.
